Before you begin

To learn how to create captions in Colab, refer to this article.

Open and exit full screen mode

  1. When you open the Colab app, it opens in the default mode.
  2. To switch to full screen mode, click on the button located at the top left of the video as shown below.
  3. To exit full screen mode, you can either click on the top left button in the video again or press the "Esc" key.

Hide and show annotation overlays

  1. By default, in the full screen mode of the Colab app, overlays such as drawing tools and annotation captions are hidden.
  2. To show those overlays, click on the "Show Overlays" button, which has an eye icon as shown below, or press the "O" key.
  3. Upon clicking, drawing tools are overlaid on the left side of the video and annotation captions are overlaid on the right side of the video.
  4. Since this is a toggle button, repeating the action will hide the overlays again.

Open and close annotation

  1. Click on the caption of any annotation to open it.
  2. Once opened, you can edit the annotation as desired and save your changes.
  3. To close the annotation, click on the "Click to close annotation" button as shown below.

Draw a rectangle drawing

  1. Click the "+" button located at the top of the left panel to create a new annotation. Once clicked, the annotation will appear on the right side, labeled with the default caption "Caption".
  2. To link a rectangle drawing to this caption, click the "Draw rectangle" button in the left panel. Then, drag the mouse over the desired part of the video or image to create a rectangle. Multiple drawings can be added to the same annotation.
Note: You can draw arrows, circles, polygons, freehand, and text. You can also edit, move, resize, or delete your drawings, and change their thickness and color.
